In the UK, we get 5.6 weeks of paid vacation a year. Give that a count; if you’re working full-time, it’s 28 days of MANDATORY paid holidays. On top of that, most of the companies will give you extra days off for an example if you’ve been there for five years etc.
I… Don’t know how Americans do it! Even with my 28 day allowance, I am so overstretched it’s not even funny. I am constantly coming home already aggravated, my road rage is slowly but surely getting worse, and I’m struggling with a constant headache from all the tension. I am constantly on the verge of tears and my workload seems completely overwhelming (it’s really not).
So I’ve taken a few days from this bank of holidays that I’ve squirreled away and booked myself a holiday.
Not me and the husband; he’s been away a few times by himself. Just me, myself and I. I wanted somewhere with over an hour’s drive (I love driving and after I get past the city roads and onto the duallies, it relaxes me) with not much to do around there. We’re already going to Amsterdam next weekend, so I wanted something completely relaxing, somewhere where I didn’t need to do anything. Or like I told my husband, I just wanted to lay in bed and smell.
I could technically do that at home, but I want to have absolutely no duties whatsoever. I don’t want to answer to anybody and I don’t want to do anything. And I just know that if I stayed at home, the mess that is our flat, cooking food and generally needing to do things would get in the way and no relaxation would happen.
Beyond the driving and being in the middle of nowhere, I wanted the hotel/B&B to have character. I don’t like corporate hotels where it doesn’t matter if you’re in Singapore or Aberdeen, the room looks the same. It just has no appeal to me. I needed the place to have a quirk, something different, something to look forward to…
And I think I found it. It’s not in the middle of nowhere but there ain’t going to be much to do. The rooms are quirky and there’s a pub next door. If that doesn’t scream perfection, what does?
So it’s probably going to be quiet around here next week whilst I recharge my batteries. But fear not, if I decide to actually get up to do something, I’ll take lots of pictures!
